Dear Elaine,

I was diagnosed in 2009 wth Graves. Methimazole had it under control until recently. I weaned myself off of the drug because I felt I was going hypo. Big mistake and should have consulted my physician before doing so. I am know back on my medication.

While I have not had the tachycarida that I had when first diagosed, i do have fatigue, vitiligo, weight gain and abdominal and pelvic pain. Because I never had the abdominal and pelvic pain before, I am wondering if this is a symptom? My physicain says it is not by adhesion pain from my hysterectomy surgery last year (stage one ovarian tumor)

Would Graves cause abdominal pain?

Thank you for your writings- they have been so helpful.

Hi,

Has your physician ordered a follow-up CA-125 since your surgery? It would be a good idea to have one now just to be on the safe side.

Most of your symptoms sound like those of hypothyroidism. I'm wondering if your TSH is low and your thyroid hormone levels are normal and perhaps now falling too quickly. Do you have your last set of labs? A low TSH doesn't mean that you're still hyperthyroid although some doctors get confused by this. You want to be on the lowest dose of mmi needed to keep FT4 at least at mid-range and preferably a little higher.

Abdominal fullness and overall swelling are more likely to occur in hypothyroidism. Pain isn't usually an issue although if you're having digestive problems or showing signs of gluten sensitivity, this could be the case. Why don't you post your last set of labs here? Best, Elaine
