In a study published in the February 2009 issue of World Journal of Gastroenterology, researchers describe a study showing lower homocysteine levels in patients with celiac disease taking vitamin B supplements.
Homocysteine is considered a marker of heart disease with higher levels conferring a higher risk of heart disease. Malabsorption in celiac disease leads to low nutrient levels and increases homocysteine levels.
