antibodies to the thyroglobulin

    Hello, Elaine!

I’ve got the results of my labs and I’d be really thankful if you could help me interpret them..

I made a mistake I guess. Instead of doing the test for “antibodies to the receptors of the thyrotropic hormone”( TSH receptor antibodies ?) -  I did “antibodies to the thyroglobulin” by accident.

The antibody result worries me a little:

                                                            my result                  limits

thyrotropic hormone  TSH                    13.9                    0, 4 – 4,0

free T4 (FT4 ?)                                     12,4                   10,3 – 24,5

antibodies to the thyroglobulin            < 3 000                         >40

Do you think I have to do smth. about it?

Should I do TSH receptor antibodies anyway?

   Thank you very much!

Re: antibodies to the thyroglobulin

Hi Daria,

If your thyroglobulin antibody results are greater than 40, they'd confirm that your thyroid condition is autoimmune. You wouldn't need to have a test for TSH receptor antibodies if thyroglobulin antibodies are elevated. It was hard to tell from your table. If your result is less than 3, than you should have the TSH receptor antibody tests.

Your high TSH and borderline low FT4 suggest that you're hypothyroid. If you're on anti-thyroid drugs, it's time to lower the dose. Best, Elaine
