Dearest Elaine,
First of all THAnk you so much for this educational and support site, you have made more of an impact on my life than you will ever know, (I'm sure I speak for others as well.)
Just wanted to let you know I did so well on the 2.5 MG MMI for this past month now that I decided to reduce my daily MMI dose again, this time to 1.25 MG per day. Been doing this 5 days now and feel just fine. Only one slightly HyperT night but I didn't even have to take Atenolol to get thru it, that was the only "hiccup"- pulse is still fine, eyes are still fine, sleep is fine again.
A month ago upon your very wise advice I reduced down to 2.5 MG MMI per day from 3.75 MG, after I had sent you my TSH and FT4 lab results from May.
I want to thank you as my doctor didn't know any better and would never have advised me to attempt a reduction, lacking the experience and familiarity with this disease. Instead he wanted to bring up RAI upon which I shut the conversation down very, very quickly - it's now a forbidden topic.
But without ever having met me personally and just viewing my lab results over the past 18 months since my GD onset, you felt I was ready to try reducing my MMI dose and you were right Elaine!
Also, from all your writings and articles and other posts, I learned to read my body to decipher if I am heading "up" or "down" (HyperT or HypoT) based on two fairly reliable things - 1. my eyes (runny versus dry) and 2. my pulse. This has helped me stay on track I think, and gave me a feeling of control, being able to read what my body is trying to tell me.
I did call my doc's office this week to inform them of my reduction to the 1.25 MG MMI per day. My next appt is Aug 28.
My question is, if I can keep up the daily 1.25 MG MMI for a month without problems do you think I could try taking 1.25 MG MMI every other day versus every single day ? Or is it wiser at this point to wait for my lab results in August ?
Also all of your articles are very helpful too, regarding the importance of nutrition in helping your body heal. I'm still using the fresh ginseng root I order from Wisconsin, believe it helps me and my immune system regain its balance, (gives me more energy too). And I also have been incorporating fresh ginger root in my daily diet too.
Thank you so much again, Happy July 4th ..
Very Sincerely, JES
