Welcome to The Q&A with Elaine Moore. 5yr old Abbie--latest labs

Hello Elaine!

I hope you are doing well :-)

So I wanted to share with you the latest on Abbie.

the last I wrote to you, was in November regarding her hypo symptoms. Her endo reduced her MMI to 1.25mg per day.

Her are her labs from the appointment just before the reduction AND her latest labs after being on the reduced dose 12 weeks later.

Nov 14, TSH 1.7 R.R = 0.34- 5.60 Feb 20 tsh 1.07

Nov 14 Ft3 5.5 R.R= 3.0- 9.0 Feb 29 FT3 6.5

Nov 14 Ft4 11 R.R= 8 - 15 Feb 20 FT4 13

So the Dr suggested 3 more months on this dose then we will try taking her off. Now, I am excited at the thought of her being off of it, as she has been on MMI for 2+ years. But, I can see that her levels crept up having reduced her dose and I am thinking does this indicate that her levels will do that or more once off all together??

Hi Leona,

Since Abbie is still secreting TSH normally on this dose, her FT4 isn't too high, and even if it crept up by 0.1, which it may not even do without meds, she'd be ok. Her labs look good on this low dose and it's likely that after another 3 months FT4 may even fall. I'm sure your doctor will evaluate the next set of labs carefully before stopping meds, but remission probably isn't far off.
