Hi Elaine, I wrote you about a month ago about my labs. I have been on 37.5 since the middle of December. I was on 50 of generic replacement before that for about 7 weeks. Labs then were:tsh-2.07,FT4-1.72,FT3-3.4.(FT4-0.8-1.80,(FT3-2.3-4.2) I felt a burning pain around my joints then, maybe the 50 was too much for me, my labs had changed a lot from the 25 mggs. I had been on 25 for months. On generic levo(25) my labs were low in the frees and a tsh of around 3. I asked to be switched to a name brand after I was on the 50 generic. I have been on Levoxyl since December and I asked to be lowered to 37.5.My labs in February on 37.5 for 2 months were tsh-0.35,FT4-1.19,Ft3-3.4.I didn't feel too well then but better than in December. I had told you I felt swollen kind of, but not in pain. You thought maybe I was more hypo and needed 50 again. I called the doc and I think, by the tsh she said to continue on the 37.5 for another month and get labs again. I started getting more of a tight feeling in my breast area, started in February.I went to my Gp to have more tests done,he even ordered an ultrasound. That was normal. I had my gallbladder removed at the end of 2010.My bloodwork was all good, liver, kidneys, cbc's,glucose all were good. Then he told me my thyroid labs which I had him do. Results were:tsh-.06,FT4-1.5,FT3-3.9. My tsh went down further which I guess my endo saw as a warning sign in February? My frees went up especially the FT3 which was the case 6 years ago when I was diagnosed with Graves. It was well over 4 then. I don't feel right, I knew something was up and the tightness in my chest is something which feels like costochondrtis which I had i my 20's. I seem to have the classic symptom of the bra really feeling tight. The doc agreed. I had a mammogram a few weeks before this started, thought lately maybe it was from that? I just know these thyroid levels are too high for me right now and changed too much and went up too high for my comfort. The only thing my Gp thought might be wrong with me. I have been feeling more breathless at times,I once again thought I was more hypo and I'm not at all. I'll have to call the endo cause she doesn't know about these. Do you think I either only need 25 of the Levoxyl or maybe don't need it at this point? I have been feeling quite anxious for the past month and now I know why.My labs from Feb 7th changed quite bit. I can't take much more of this up and down. I certainly don't feel normal or like I did taking the 25 mcgs. I couldn't figure out why I kept feeling worse instead of better but it could be all the ups and downs I have experienced in the past few months. Do you think it could be Graves taking over again?I have been more on the hypo side since getting off anti thyroid meds almost 2 years ago. Do I need it at all or just go back to 25 Elaine? I want to feel like myself again and I haven't since being put on the 50, then 37.5. I have to call the endo, what's up with me?? I feel a little better knowing the thyroid levels are off, I thought I had something really serious going on. Thanks Elaine, again! Sincerely, Brans

Hi Brans,
I think you may no longer need to be on meds. People with Graves' disease who go into remission and then move into hypothyroidism often have temporary conditions of hypothryoidism (just like the hyperthryoidism). It looks as though your hypothyroidism has resolved. There's always the possibility of a relapse from GD too, but the first step would be to stop meds and then have thyroid labs in 6-8 weeks. I think your symptoms are from your FT3 being too high. The range is 2.3-4.2 and most people feel best with an FT3 around mid-range. If your symptoms are troublesome you could ask for a low dose of propranolol to use as needed like 20 mg. Propranolol inhibits the conversion of T4 to T3 so it'll help your FT3 fall faster. Take care, Elaine
