Since my Graves' dx, but especially in the last couple of months, I've developed a stubborn yeast infection and my breasts have shrunk from "small" to 'practically non-existent."

the total loss of libido was enough; my partner is being super-kind and patient about it. But I've been a little "dry" since the damage to my hypothalamus; very since Graves' dx, and I suspect the dryness along with the immune issues is why the yeast infection won't go away. And now this breast shrinkage.

Is this the Graves'? If not, any suggestions of where to start? Can I safely use a little estrogen cream, given I keep reading estrogen can trigger this kind of thing or worsen it?

Hi Olivia,

Estrogen levels are more likely to fall if you're hypothyroid. Are you on an ATD dose that's too high or did you have RAI? Low libido is also more likely to be seen in hypothyroidism. Be sure that both FT4 and FT3 are at least at mid-range and preferably higher.

Graves' disease doesn't damage the hypothalamus. When thyroid hormone levels are elevated or when full replacement hormone is needed, the normal thyroid-hypothalamic-pituitary axis (that normally regulates thyroid hormone levels) is no longer intact since levels of thyroid hormone are no longer dependent on TSH.

Ask your doctor to check your estradiol level to see if bioidentical hormones or a vaginal estrogen cream might help you. Best, Elaine
