PTU DOSAGE 

HI ELAINE,

THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSE.

 I WAS ON PTU 200 MG ABOUT 2.5 WEEKS, STOPPED FOR A FEW DAYS BECAUSE OF THE NEW WARNING, & THEN WENT ON 100 MG & ONE TIME A DAY THYROSOOTH FOR ABOUT A WEEK;

SHOULD I LOWER THE DOSE NOW OR WAIT A LITTLE?

FOR HOW LONG SHOULD I CONTINUE TO TAKE & WHEN SHOULD I HAVE THE NEXT TEST?

WHEN DOES THE TSH KICK IN?

BY THE WAY, MY LIVER ENZIMES IMPROVED A LOT: AST 32(10-35), ALT 72 (6-40)

Hi Rita,

You can lower the dose now, and you want to continue to take your meds until you're in remission. Over time, you'll be lowering your meds. When you get down to a very low PTU dose, like 12.5 mg daily and are secreting TSH normally then or have a low TSI, you know you're in remission and can stop meds then.

For some people this can take several years.  What's important is staying on the lowest dose of meds needed to keep FT4 in range until remission is achieved. Best, Elaine
