New doc. What do you think?
O.K. so, as you know, I fired my last endo because he insisted on ablation. I did some general research (thank to all who helped find a new doc). I ended up with an office that came recommended my Mary Shoman. I told him all of my concerns with ablation, and he agreed that it was not the route for me. So that made me feel better. I asked about complete remission, and he was honest and told me that people do not just go into remission, and that a life time of meds was very real. That made me sad, but I'll adjust. He felt my neck and felt a nodule. He wants me to get an ultrasound so he can see what we are dealing with. He prescribed Tapazole 10 mg a day. Does all of this sound right? He wants to see me in a month to do new blood tests (I asked for free t3 & free t4, and antibodies, and he didn't seem to have a problem with that). All in all, I feel a lot more comfortable with this course of action. I will go get my prescription filled and get started on Tapazole. Tomorrow will be a new day. .

Re: New doc. What do you think?

Hi Becco,

He sounds like a good endo although I don't agree with him on meds being needed for a lifetime. This simply isn't borne out in studies, and Graves' disease is a self-limiting disorder. But I guess you'll be able to show him over time that permanent remission is possible.

It's a good idea to have an ultrasound when a nodule is suspected. A 10 mg starting dose of methimazole for you sounds right.

Best, Elaine
