Hello All
I need help understanding this. I Have been feeling quite ill for the past few months. I have been hungry, Heart palpitations; anxious feelings would arise at moments of resting; frequent bowel movements; achy body; eyes sensitivity to all lights, shakiness and increase sensitivity to heat. I have been to the Er three times in the ast 9 months for palpitations, and each time the ekg's are normal cant find anything. I have a goier witha 8mm thyroid nodule. In september while in ER, I was tested for tsh recptor antiboides, t3 uptake, free t3 and free t4; I tested positive for tsh receptor 2.32; T3/ T4 was within normal range. I was told that the antibodies didn't mean anything, and they are not treated, although I am having sympotms that are classical textbook for hyperthyroid, but it has to be something else. I need your opinions? Thanks

Hi,
Did they run a TSH test? If you're in the early stages of hyperthyroidism, the TSH should be low. I'm surprised they ran TSH receptor antibodies on an ER patient unless this test was sent out and you received the results at a later time. If you do have TSH receptor antibodies, this would suggest Graves' disease although any treatment would be based on your T4/T3 levels and not the antibody results.
I'd ask your regular doctor to run tests for FT4, FT3 and TSH as these are the best indicators of your thyroid status. If you're not hyperthyroid, it could be that you're having transient spikes of thyroid hormone caused by your nodule or Graves' disease, and that these spikes are causing transient symptoms. Other causes for your symptoms should be looked for, including catecholamine disorders. best, elaine
