For several years now, I've talked about the benefits of the herb boswellia for reducing inflammation. The most potent form of boswellia has been Loxin-5, found in ArthroMax made by Life Extension. Now, Loxin-5 is available in OsteoFlex, which is carried by most local pharmacies. The active ingredients in OsteoFlex include:
Ingredients:
Glucosamine Sulfate 500 mg
Boswellia standardized to > 70 % boswellic acids 125 mg
Curcumin standardized to > 95% curcuminoids 125 mg
Of particular interest is the addition of curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, which has also been shown to have potent anti-inflammatory benefits. Both curcumin and boswellia have been studied by CAM researchers and shown to have great anti-inflammatory properties with few side effects.
Even though these products are over the counter, if your doctor writes a prescription for them you can be reimbursed through flexible spending accounts and they may be covered by medical insurance.
