Low Vitamin D and Cognitive Impairment

By Elaine Moore on 4/8/2009

An article scheduled for publication in the Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry and Neurology shows an association between decreased levels of vitamin D and an increased risk of cognitive impairment in older men and women.

Dr. Ian Lang and his colleagues evaluated data from the 2000 Healthy Survey for England and found that subjects with the lowest vitamin D levels had a 2.28 times greater risk of cognitive impairment than subjects whose vitamin D levels were in the top quarter.
