Using Iodine for Hyperthyroidism

By Elaine Moore on 4/8/2014

Dear Graves' patients,

Like Lugol's solution, very high concentrations of iodine as in Iodoral can work well for treating hyperthyroidism.

Read the following blog entry by the endocrine expert, Dr. Jeffrey Dach.

Note: the amounts used in Lugol's and Iodoral are in mg and are much higher than the amounts in food or multivitamins. The minimum requirement for iodine is 75-150 mcg and Dr. Dach explains nicely how the higher amounts inhibit the production and release of thyroid hormone.  Note: this remedy doesn't work for toxic multinodular goiter.
