    Hi Elaine-

    Hope you are well.

    I have been on 20 mg of carbimizole for 2 months (had been on 40, then 30 before that).

    Here of my labs from last week
    Free T3= 5.7 (reference range: 2.8-7.1)
    Free T4= 15.6 (reference range: 10.16-22.0)
    TSH=<.01 (reference range: .27-4.2)

    My endo wants me to continue to stay on 20 mg of carbminzol. I think the doctor wants to see the numbers be a bit on the lower end of the range, before dropping the dose again. Is that the correct approach?

    Hi,
    The guidelines recommend using the lowest dose needed to keep FT4 near the high end of the reference range and yours is more at mid-range. Part of the rationale here is that over time, while on meds, your thyroid levels fall and it's important to keep levels from falling too low as this can lead to a rise in thyroid antibodies and the development of thyroid eye disease (Graves' ophthalmopathy). Gradual changes are best so you might ask about lowering to 15 mg daily. best, elaine
