Hi Elaine, Many thanks for your last reply. This is now my second post and I would very much like your expert advice once again. Just a quick recap for you.....

This is my third episode of Graves’s disease since my initial diagnosis back in April 2010.

In January this year I had my bloods taken ready for my Endo follow up appointment. The results showed I was once again heading overactive. Results were: TSH < 0.05 (0.35-5.50)

T4 21.4 (11.0-23.0)

T3 8.4 (3.5-6.5)

I was given Carbimazole 5mg, since only my T3 was out of range. I had my bloods checked again on 11th March 2013. Results were:

TSH <0.05 (0.35-5.50)

T4 31.0 (11.0- 23.0)

T3 15.3 (3.5-6.5)

My dose was increased to 20mg. I had bloods checked again on 3rd May having been on the 20mg dose for 7 weeks. Results were:

TSH <0.05 (0.35-5.50)

T4 13.8 (11.0-23.0)

T3 5.6 (3.5-6.5)

I decreased the dose as advised by my Endo to 15mg (dividing the dose morning and night)

I have now just had my bloods rechecked after 5 weeks and the results are as follows:

TSH 0.38 (0.35-5.50)

T4 11.3 (11.0-23.0)

My GP, who ordered the blood test, has told me to reduce the Carbimazole to 10mg and have a repeat blood test in 4 weeks time. Would you agree with this dose given that I’m bordering on underactive now? I’m starting to feel more tired, bloated and gaining a little weight if I’m not careful with my diet, as well as my body has starting to feel achy at times.

Kindest regards and many thanks once again

Hi Karen,

A dose of 10 mg may be low enough but it may be that you're ready to drop to 5 mg. I'd compromise on a 7.5 mg daily dose and ask your doctor if this would be ok for you try since it's important to avoid becoming hypothyroid. Best, Elaine
