I started 10mg methimazole on 6/22 on 7/7 dosage changed to 20mg a day. On 7/10 dosage changed to 10mg every 8 hours. On 7/14 I was at the er in severe pain. One week later I had a Ct scan and it was negative. Doctor stopped the methimazole and I am still talking the propranolol.

    Hi,
Sounds like your doctor may not realize that it takes 6-8 weeks for a starting dose of MMI to yield maximum results. Your dose was changed too soon. Doses of 30 mg daily are rarely needed or used today and that can cause a rise in liver enzymes, joint pain, etc.
Ideally, your doctor would be checking FT4 and FT3 to see what dose of MMI would be appropriate. Probably the 10 mg daily or lower. best, elaine
