    Hi Elaine,

I posted back in May with the following results at that time I was taking a small amount of carb maybe just a crumb every 3 days

    TSH 1.7 (0.27-4.20)
    Free T3 not tested
    Free T4 16 (12-22)

Following those results I came of carb completely. I had a blood test at the end of July results,

    TSH 2.1 (0.27-4.2)
    Free T3 not tested
    Free T4 unhelpfully not tested

I saw the Endo yesterday but it wasn't my usual person. I explained that I felt I was going hypo and I had been feeling anxious. She said that anxiety was not a hypo symptom. I also said my heart rate at night was sluggish and for normal people TSH should be 1 which she didn't really answer, I then asked what my levels would have to be to be treated as hypo and she said top end (4.2) with associated hypo symptoms.

I came home and burst into tears as I feel as if I'm not being listened too and only when my symptoms get really bad will anyone take action which will be harder to rectify. I've got to have bloods again in 6 weeks hopefully they will measure T4.

Do you think I will stabilise or am I heading into a hypo abyss?

    Hi,
Your endo should know that anxiety is a common symptom of hypothyroidism. She should also know that the recommended range for TSH is 0.3--3.0 although most labs use a higher range assuming endos will know the changes recommended in 2003. Numerous reports in the literature also state that in someone with thyroid antibodies, which includes nearly all Graves' disease patients, a TSH higher than 2.0 suggests hypothyroidism. Can you see a new endo or a good family practice doctor or internist or osteopath? Often, they keep up with the literature more.
An endo who only tests TSH in a patient with Graves' disease sends up red flags and indicates they don't even realize that TSH is falsely suppressed in Graves
disease patients, meaning that your level of 2.1 is already misleading. You very likely could be moving into hypothyroidism but there's a good chance that this doctor won't realize this or even know that 20% of Graves' patients move into hypothyroidism spontaneously. best, elaine
