Hi Elaine hope you are well! So I recently had a hysterectomy in May. Just my uterus but yep pfffft it's been pretty hardcore! My TSH has been undetectable for over a year now but my T4 is falling slowly! I've stopped taking carbimazole and am now just taking bugleweed/magnesium/milk thistle and homeopathy. Since taking this combination for 3 weeks and my T4 has gone from 25.9 to 23.9 so I guess it's working! However the Dr will say that I still need meds!? I'm going to tell him what I've been taking! I feel a lot better at these levels but my eye keeps twitching and I get leg cramps! However!! I think I'm in perimenopause too and breath!! Haha! Do you have any thoughts on this? I eat paleo and am thinking on doing autoimmune paleo. I tried acetyl l carnitine but it made me feel awful!! Ugh! Help! Ps I'm in the UK. Sending love! ❤️

    Hi Karma Way,

In most labs in the UK the reference range for FT4 is 9-25 so your bugleweed combination with homeopathy has brought FT4 into range. I'd th99.ink you'd want to stay on this dose and if FT4 falls more with your next labs you could lower the dose. As long as this combination is working you wouldn't need your regular meds.
Your eye may be twitching from your previous labs when your FT4 was 25.9. It's possible that this level was high as a result of your hysterectomy. If estrogen levels fall, thyroid hormone has more protein molecules available to bind with it so thyroid hormone levels rise. Leg cramps can be from low magnesium and calcium so you may need more calcium. Calcium must be taken along with vitamin K to prevent it from causing calcium deposits in blood vessels. Many products designed to help bones contain calcium, magnesium, vitamin K and other ingredients such as boron. You also need to have adequate vitamin D to absorb calcium and magnesium properly so it's a good idea to ask your doctor for a 25 OH Vitamin D level and to use vitamin D3 supplements if your level is low. In individuals with Graves' disease, the vitamin D level is usually low. An autoimmune paleo diet is also a good idea. best, elaine
