I would really appreciate some input on this as I'm at my wits end.

I have been on Thyroid-S from Thailand for the last three years, after ten years on T4 only, then another three years first on NDT (first Armour and then Erfa). Neither was great for me.

I then decided to try Thyroid-S from Thailand as it has been getting consistently great reviews online. It's also considerably cheaper than prescription NDT.

Around the same time I started on Thyroid-S, I was also put on blood pressure medication and beta-blockers. At the time, I was on long-term sick-leave for severe burnout.

In February 2014, I had a blackout (lasting for 20-30 seconds during which I stared straight ahead and was unaware of people talking to me).

Since then, I have had those blackouts regularly; sometimes, daily; sometimes, weeks between. I was referred to a neurologist, had several EEGs, one MRI, told I had no traditional brain damage that you'd expect to see in epilepsy but that an anti-epileptic drug might help anyway. I was put on Keppra and have been on it for the past year. The blackouts still occur from time to time, though, and now my neurologist has started talking about switching from Keppra to Lamotrigin.

Now to my question which may sound crazy but I have been thinking lately: the first blackout happened around the time I started on Thyroid-S. So, is there anything in Thyroid-S (I know it contains a lot of fillers; I saw a list on Stop the Thyroid Madness which may not even be complete, meaning there could be even more fillers) that could have triggered and is still triggering these blackouts?

I would hate having to go off Thyroid-S as I have been doing better on it than any other thyroid drug (diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease 17 years ago), but I cannot help but wonder if it's a coincidence that the blackouts started around the same time I switched to it...?

I know there are other Thai NDT brands (Thiroyd and TR), but I don't know how good they are compared to Thyroid-S.

Any input on this would be much appreciated.

    Hi,
Considering the timeframe you're mentioning and the fact that Thyroid-S, coming from Thailand, could have a degradation of ingredients occurring during shipping, I'd ask your doctor for a prescription for Westhroid or Armour or one of the other products that's a regulated prescription drug. I couldn't find any journal articles on this product. best, elaine
